Log files contain information similar to that on the “Log” tab of a trading terminal, e.g. info about starting the terminal, opening and closing orders, errors, installation of indicators and advisors, the server connection, etc. This information may be helpful when analyzing order execution, so customer service specialists often ask traders to provide it.
In MetaTrader 4 you can find the log files by going to File → Open Data Folder → “logs” folder. Log file names look like this: “20150101.log”, i.e. each day has its own file. You can save the required part of a log file to a new file or copy the entire file and send it to customer support specialists via email (firstname.lastname@example.org), Live Chat or upload it in the “Feedback” section of your Personal Area.
Please note that information about actions performed by advisors is stored in separate log files that you can find by going to File→ Open Data Folder→ “MQL4” folder → “Logs” folder.
If you need to send one or more lines from your terminal logs, you can copy them directly from MetaTrader 4. To do so, sign in to your trading terminal and go to the “Experts” tab or “Log” tab (depending on the type of logs you need). Right-click on the desired line and click “Copy”. You can select several lines by pressing Ctrl+Shift on the keyboard. You can find the desired line by right-clicking on any line and selecting “Browse”. A log-file browser window will then open. You can copy the desired lines from there.
How to find log files for a mobile terminal on the Android operating system
On mobile devices with the Android operating system, log files can be accessed through “Explorer” or “File Manager”. Go to your phone's internal memory → Android → data → net.metaquotes.metatrader4 → files → logs. You can select the desired file directly on your phone and send it in an email, or connect your phone to a computer and copy the file to the computer to then send it via email, Live Chat or a support request in your Personal Area.
