Guide to using MetaTrader 5 for iOS mobile devices (iPhone & iPad)

Installation

Download MetaTrader 5 from the iTunes website or through the App Store app on your mobile device.

After installation, tap on the application icon application icon on the desktop.

After the app has launched, a welcome window will appear.

The app's version is shown in the bottom part of the screen.

Sign In / Register a Trial Account

On first launch of the app you will be given the following options:

  • "Connect to an existing account" - sign in using a previously registered account.
  • "Open a trial account" - register a new trial account.
    After making your choice, select "Exness Server" from the list: "Exness-Server"
  • If you want to connect to an existing account, enter your username and password and tap "Sign in".
  • If you are registering a new trial account, enter your personal information, select your account's initial settings (leverage, deposit, account currency) and tap "Open an account".

The MT5 interface consists of a main workspace and a menu in the bottom part of the screen. The menu lets you switch between the terminal’s main sections.

  • Quotes - a list of trading instruments
  • Chart - a window with charts and indicators
  • Trade - a window that displays transactions, pending orders, and the state of your account
  • History - the history of your trading operations
  • Settings - app settings and account management.

Quotes

The Quotes tab provides real-time information about trading instruments. Use the "Simple" and "Advanced" buttons in the top part of the screen to switch between a simple and detailed view. Only Ask and Bid prices are displayed in the "Simple" view.

A context menu appears when a symbol is pressed. The following actions are available in the menu:

  • Trade - create a new order for the selected trading instrument.
  • Chart - open the trading instrument's chart.
  • Properties - view the trading instrument's properties.
  • Cancel - close the context menu.

To add a new symbol, tap Add symbol in the top part of the screen. Tap Add symbol to the left of the desired symbol. Then tap "Done" in the top part of the screen.

To reduce bandwidth consumption you can remove unused symbols from the list. To do this, turn on edit mode by tapping the "Edit" button in the top part of the screen. To remove a symbol, first tap Remove symbol to the left of the symbol. Then tap "Delete".

You can change the order in which symbols are displayed by dragging them. To do this, press the icon icon to the right of the symbol.

Symbols in the Forex\Indicator group cannot be traded. These symbols are used to determine currency exchange rates.

Charts

Tapping the Charts button in the main menu at the bottom of the screen opens a tab with charts. Built-in indicators can be added to a chart.

In the mobile version of MT5 there is a limit on how many bars can be displayed in a chart. Depending on the device, a chart can show 2000 or more bars. A message will appear at the bottom of the chart when the limit is reached.

The chart for a particular instrument can be opened from the Quotes tab's context menu.

Buttons for chart display settings are located in the top part of the screen. To change the time period, tap the button in the top left corner of the screen (7 time periods are available, from 1M to 1D).

Use the Bars Candles Line buttons to change the chart type (bars, candles, or line).

To add/remove indicators, tap the Indicators button or select "Indicators" in the context menu.

Chart settings are accessed by tapping the Settings button or selecting Settings in the context menu.

The context menu in this tab contains of the following items:

  • Trade - create an order for the selected trading instrument
  • Indicators - manage indicators
  • Settings - indicator settings
  • Cancel - close the context menu.

To add a new indicator to a chart, tap the button to the left of the chart's window in the indicator settings window. Select the desired indicator from the list, set the indicator's parameters, and tap "Done" in the upper part of the screen.

To remove an indicator, turn on edit mode using the "Edit" button in the top right corner of the "Indicators" menu:

  • Tap Remove indicator to remove the indicator; tap Remove indicator window to remove the indicator's auxiliary window.
  • Swipe from left to right across the indicator's name up to the "Delete" button

Trading

The "Trade" tab displays information about your account's current state and all your current positions and pending orders.

This tab's context menu includes several items.

For positions:

  • "Close position" - close the position;
  • "Change position" - change the Stop Loss and Take Profit levels for the selected position;
  • "New order" - create an order for the selected trading instrument;
  • "Chart" - open the trading instrument's chart;
  • "Cancel" - close the context menu.

For pending orders:

  • "Delete" - cancel the order;
  • "Change order" - open the window with order's parameters
  • "Chart" - open the trading instrument's chart;
  • "Cancel" - close the context menu.

Opening and closing orders:

The new order menu appears when "Trade" is tapped in the context menu on virtually all of the app's tabs.

Set the transaction size, select "Instant execution", and tap "Next" in the top right corner of the screen. In the next step you set the Stop Loss and Take Profit levels and the maximum allowable deviation from the price specified for opening the order.

The order will be placed when you tap the "Sell" or "Buy" button.

You close a position by selecting "Close position" in the "Trade" tab's context menu. The position will be closed when you tap the "Close" button.

Pending orders:

Open the "New order" window from the context menu. Set the desired transaction size and pending order type. Then tap "Next" in the top right corner of the screen.

Next set the order price, Stop Loss and Take Profit prices, and the expiration date.

The expiration date can be: until canceled, today, or a specific date and time. If the specified expiration date falls on the weekend, the order will be set to expire before market close at the end of the current week.

After it is placed, the order will appear in the "Trade" tab.

To change a pending order's parameters, tap "Change order" in the order’s context menu on the "Trade" tab.

To cancel a pending order, select "Delete" in the context menu. In the window that appears you can then confirm or cancel deletion of the order.

History

The History tab displays your order history and a history of your profitable and loss-making transactions, in the Order and Transaction tabs, respectively.

Tap "Order" or "Transaction" for more detailed information.

Tap Time icon to view the history for a specific period and trading instrument.

Settings

Various MT5 settings may be changed in the Settings tab Use the main menu in the lower part of the screen to go to this tab.

  • "Accounts" - opens a screen for managing your accounts. On this screen you can switch between accounts, add a new account, or register a new trial account.
  • "Chart" - opens the chart settings window where you can turn on the display of volumes and trading levels.
  • "Messages" - displays all of the push notifications you have received. Here you can also view your personal identifier (ID), delete individual push notifications, or delete your entire message history.
  • "Log" - view your MT5 log files, which are a record of the terminal’s operation. The log can be viewed by date. Switch between days by tapping the buttons on the right and left at the bottom of the screen.
